ABOUT US

UHPO logo

Ushirika Horizons Pathways Organisation is the vision of a young refugee who has experienced the hardships of refugee life. Inspired by his Christian faith, he never stopped trusting God. Along his journey, he met another young Christian refugee who also embraced the vision.

Ushirika Horizons Pathways Organisation (UHPO) was founded by two young Christian refugees living in Uganda who were inspired by their own experiences of displacement, struggle, and hope. Having faced firsthand the challenges of adapting to a new country language barriers, limited education opportunities, and economic hardships they chose to transform their pain into purpose. Motivated by faith and compassion, they envisioned an organization that would uplift fellow refugees, restoring dignity and self-worth through practical empowerment.

UHPO was born out of their shared belief that refugees are not defined by their circumstances, but by their capacity to rebuild, learn, and lead meaningful lives.

Since its founding, Ushirika Horizons Pathways Organisation has grown into a grassroots movement dedicated to helping refugees navigate life in exile with confidence and self-reliance. The organization focuses on creating pathways for sustainable livelihoods, education, and community integration, emphasizing values of faith, service, and resilience. By providing refugees with English language training, vocational skills, and seed funding to start small businesses, UHPO equips them to become active contributors to society rather than passive recipients of aid. In every initiative,UHPO upholds its core mission: to empower refugees to rise above dependence, rediscover hope, and build a brighter horizon for themselves and their communities.

VISION

Ushirika Horizon Pathways (UHPO) empowers refugees to break the cycle of dependency on humanitarian aid by equipping them with the tools to rebuild their lives with dignity, safety, and independence.

Through innovative, holistic programs that combine protection and legal support with mental health care, language education, and livelihood-focused training, UHPO transforms relief into resilience, enabling refugees to heal, assert their rights, and shape their own futures.

MISSION

A world where refugees live in safety, dignity, and self-reliance, free from dependency on humanitarian aid.
